i love the quality of charcoal, he tactile feel of the burnt wood. all the drawings are done on BFK printing paper.   in order to draw the way i like to draw i have to think myself right into the subject. concentrate, observe with sympathy, catch the moment   this is one of my favorites. for a while we had a young woman of Italian background sitting for us - Gina - this drawing was developed from one of the sketches.   i have been drawing for a long time, still there is so much more to see and explore. i would say - like Hokusai Owakio Rojin:" at a hundred i shall have reached a marvelous stage; and when i am 110 every thing i do, be it but a dot or line, will be alive.   two faces - linked together.   The collision of light and dark, the subtle transmissions possible, are one of the attractions of the charcoal media.   the intended message here is - like in all of the drawings - to convey the internal state through the expressiveness of line and gesture. here the inclined head, closed eyes and lots of light do the work.   this etching was developed from the face 7 drawing on a zinc plate with the new Image-On photo based printmaking method. I will use all the images to develop plates for printmaking.   i am dreaming - looking out a window - there are many faces...
